Traditional dye shop at the foot of Kompira-san.
"Sanuki Nori Dyeing" is a traditional craft in which patterns are drawn and dyed using a dye-proof paste made from glutinous rice. The climate of the Seto Inland Sea is considered suitable for dyeing, and in the Edo period there were a lot of dyehouses in the Konya-machi area of Takamatsu Castle. There, stray clothes and kimonos, which were closely associated with daily life, were dyed, and Noren, banners(Nobori) and curtains were also made. Dyeing craftsman Yoshinoya, which has been in Kotohira-cho town for four generations, offers visitors the opportunity to make tote bags using the "Sanuki Nori Dyeing" technique. After dyeing, you can take the bag home and remove the glue yourself before using it.
