Red Pumpkin|赤かぼちゃ

Red Pumpkin|赤かぼちゃ
"Naoshima" island is known as a sacred place for contemporary art. When you arrive at Naoshima by ferry, a large, brightly coloured pumpkin catches your eye. The polka-dotted "red pumpkin" is the artwork of leading contemporary artist Yayoi Kusama and is a representative artwork of Naoshima. Some of the black polka dots on the bright red exterior have holes in them to allow visitors to enter inside and enjoy taking photos.

Setouchi Triennale

‣ The Setouchi Triennale began in 2010 and is a contemporary art festival held once every three years on 12 islands and 2 ports in the Seto Inland Sea.

‣ Some artworks continue to be exhibited as permanent artworks after the end of the festival period. Therefore, many domestic and international visitors come to see the artworks outside the festival period.

An experience you won`t find anywhere else…

Until a few years ago, there were not enough accommodation facilities on Naoshima. Therefore, it is said that many guests used these red pumpkins for long-term accommodations. Of course, it is now strictly forbidden to stay overnight.
