Beautiful view of approximately 800 terraced rice fields
‣ Throughout the year you can take in the different views – rice transplanting time, when the rice fields are filled with water, and harvesting time, when the whole area is covered in the deep green of the mature rice plants.
‣ This is also the site where the Japanese Academy award-winning film ‘Yokame-no-Sem' (Eighth Day of Cicadasi) was shot. Thanks to the filming, the 300-year tradition of ‘mushi-okuri’ (sending off the insects) was revived. In the middle of summer, the farmers walk through the fields with flaming torches to rid the rice plants of pests and pray for a bountiful harvest.
An experience you won`t find anywhere else…
