Chosa Kaikan

Chosa Kaikan
‘Chosa’ refers to the traditional mountain cart used in these parts. It is also known as Taikodai, as it is used to carry decorations and drums. The ‘Chosa Festival’ is a traditional event of the Kanonji area that dates back to the Edo period. The ‘kakikurabe’ is a must-see, as the cart is raised up energetically by participants.

Inside, you will find pictures, drawings and audio materials explaining the history of the festival. There are exhibitions of the delicate carvings and other decorations of the Chosa with explanation of the traditional craftsmanship, along with the ‘happi’ coat worn at the festival and the ‘chochin’ lanterns that light up the festival.
