Letters without destinations quietly wait for someone on a small island.
The Missing Post Office is an art project housed in a former post office on Awashima in the Seto Inland Sea. Letters addressed to one’s past or future self, a loved one who can no longer be met, or an unknown recipient are held in drifting post-office boxes, reaching visitors’ hearts across time and place.

Visitors may freely read letters sent from across Japan. The words of strangers may quietly resonate with your own memories and thoughts of someone important.
2. Entrust a letter to someone, someday
Write thoughts without a definite recipient—to a person or thing in the past, present, or future—on a postcard and place it in the box inside or at the entrance.
3. Enjoy Awashima’s art and unhurried island time
The route from the port passes a tranquil sea and nostalgic streets. Take time to explore the island’s art and scenery as part of your visit.

By car
About 20 minutes by car from Mitoyo-Toyonaka IC or Mitoyo-Tossaka IC on the Takamatsu Expressway to Suda Port.
Use the free parking lot at Suda Port, then transfer to the Awashima ferry.
By public transportation
Take the Mitoyo Community Bus from JR Takuma Station to Suda Port.
The ferry from Suda Port to Awashima Port takes about 15 minutes, followed by a five-minute walk.

About a five-minute walk from Awashima Port. This former junior high school is now a creative and exhibition space featuring works developed by island residents and artists.

About a 15-minute walk from Awashima Port. Its approach leads to the beach, where a seaside torii gate changes character with the tides.
・Mount Jonoyama
At 222 meters, this is the island’s highest peak. The summit offers a 360-degree view of the Seto Inland Sea; wear suitable walking clothes and allow ample time.

A small island “post office” receives letters with no known destination. The Missing Post Office holds messages addressed to a past or future self, someone once loved, a departed loved one, or another unknown recipient across time and space.
