Shodoshima somen has a history of about 400 years. Nakabu-an somen is one of Shodoshima’s special products, and can even be considered an important part of the island’s culinary culture.  Nakabu-an is the name of the factory, but there is also a restaurant situated next door, and you can taste both somen and udon fresh out of the factory. These somen are made using their special in-house process, giving the noodles a distinctive texture. This special taste can only be found here.

Fresh somen, direct from the factory

‣ From inside the shop you can observe the traditional processing of the somen, and the special attraction is the ‘hashi-wake’ where the noodles are separated by chopsticks. This is a great change to experience an important part of Japanese culture.

‣ There is also a souvenir-corner in the restaurant, so you can choose from a wide selection of somen souvenirs.
