No.31 - Chikurinji Temple|竹林寺
Chikurin-ji Temple is located at the top of Godaisan, where the Makino Botanical Garden is. There are 19 Buddha images, including the Manjushri Bodhisattva. The main hall has been designated as an Important Cultural Heritage, and the garden is one of the ‘Three Kochi Gardens’. There is also a five-tiered pagoda and a library. At the museum, you can view the 19 Buddha images (all have Important Cultural Heritage status), dating from the period between the Fujiwara and Kamakura eras. In 1318, the famous monk Musokokshi came to Kochi and created the viewing garden so that it would encircle the guest’s pavilion, making use of the surrounding fields.
